Occultism 101: Introduction
A four week exploration of the history, philosophy, symbolism, and practices that have shaped occult traditions for centuries.
The first session begins on Monday 6th July 2026, with a new session taking place each week for four consecutive weeks thereafter. Each one-hour class builds upon the last, gradually introducing key concepts, ideas, and practices within Western occult traditions.
Week 1: What Is Occultism?
In our first session, we’ll explore what the word occult actually means and examine the rich history of esoteric traditions in the Western world. We’ll look at the origins of Hermeticism, alchemy, astrology, and magical practice, while separating common myths and misconceptions from historical reality. This session provides the foundations needed to understand the broader occult landscape and helps participants discover where their own interests may lie.
Week 2: Symbols, Correspondences and the Language of the Occult
Occult traditions often communicate through symbols, archetypes, and systems of correspondence. In this session, we’ll explore the meanings behind the classical elements, planets, numbers, and other symbolic frameworks that appear throughout esoteric teachings. Participants will gain an understanding of how these systems have been used to interpret the world, structure ritual practice, and support personal reflection.
Week 3: Meditation, Ritual and Inner Experience
This week focuses on the practical side of occultism. We’ll discuss the purpose of ritual, meditation, visualisation, and other techniques used to cultivate focus, intention, and self-awareness. Through guided exercises and discussion, participants will learn how practitioners have traditionally approached inner development and altered states of consciousness within an occult context.
Week 4: Finding Your Path
Our final session brings everything together and explores the many directions that occult study can take. We’ll examine a variety of traditions and approaches, discuss recommended books and resources, and consider how to continue learning in a thoughtful and grounded way. Whether your interest is historical, philosophical, spiritual, or practical, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of where to go next on your journey.
